KonX Setup & Fixes
This guide will help you get set up and troubleshoot common issues so you can enjoy smooth meetings.
System Requirements
Make sure your device meets the following requirements:
- Desktop/Laptop: Windows 10+, macOS 11+, Linux (latest stable).
- Mobile: iOS 14+ (Safari/Chrome), Android 10+ (Chrome/Firefox).
- RAM: At least 4 GB (8 GB recommended).
- CPU: Dual-core processor (i5 or equivalent recommended).
Network & Bandwidth
- Minimum speed: 1 Mbps upload / 1 Mbps download.
- Recommended speed: 5 Mbps+ upload & download for HD video.
- Use wired connection when possible for stability.
- If using Wi-Fi, stay close to your router and avoid heavy downloads during meetings.
- Disable VPNs, firewalls, or proxies that may block WebRTC connections.
Supported Browsers
KonX works best on modern browsers. Please use the latest version of:
- Google Chrome (74+)
- Microsoft Edge (79+)
- Firefox (70+)
- Safari (14+)
⚠️ Internet Explorer is not supported.
Audio & Video Setup
- Allow your browser to access your camera and microphone when prompted.
- Click the settings gear inside the meeting to select the correct device.
- For best quality:
- Use a USB headset or external microphone.
- Avoid laptop built-in mics in noisy rooms.
- Use headphones to prevent echo.
Common Fixes
Camera or Microphone Not Working
- Check if another app (Zoom, Teams, etc.) is using the camera. Close it.
- In Chrome: Settings > Privacy > Site Settings > Camera/Microphone → Allow KonX.
- Restart your browser and rejoin the meeting.
Link Not Opening
- Click the KonX Now button in your email invitation.
- If it doesn’t work, right-click → Copy link address, then paste into a supported browser.
- Still not working? Try a different browser (Chrome or Firefox recommended).
Poor Audio/Video Quality
- Turn off video if your network is slow.
- Reduce background apps consuming bandwidth.
- Ask participants to mute when not speaking.
Test Your Setup
Before joining an important meeting, test your setup:
- Open a test call link (provide KonX test link if available).
- Check video preview and mic input levels.
- Confirm your internet speed at speedtest.net.
Screen Sharing Tips
- Choose whether to share your entire screen, a specific window, or a browser tab.
- For videos, share Chrome tab with audio enabled.
- Close personal or sensitive windows before sharing.
Mobile Users
- iOS Safari: Tap the invite link and allow mic/camera.
- Android Chrome: Tap the invite link and allow permissions.
- Keep your phone charged; video calls use extra battery.
Security & Privacy
- Use the Lock Room feature to keep uninvited users out.
- Only hosts/moderators can control participants’ audio/video.
- Chats and sessions follow KonX privacy guidelines.
How to Avoid KonX Session Interruptions on iOS (iPhone)
- Turn OFF Low Power Mode
- Low Power Mode can force iOS to kill background apps.
- Settings → Battery → Low Power Mode → OFF
- Turn ON Background App Refresh
- This allows Safari/Chrome to stay active even when a call comes in.
- Settings → General → Background App Refresh → ON
- Disable "Prevent Cross-Site Tracking"
- Safari can disconnect KonX sessions when this is ON.
- Settings → Safari → Privacy & Security → Prevent Cross-Site Tracking → OFF
- Disable “Hide IP Address” (optional but helpful)
- Prevents Safari from interfering with secure connections.
- Settings → Safari → Hide IP Address → OFF
- Turn OFF Voice Isolation for calls
- Voice Isolation changes audio routing and can affect mic access.
- During a call: Control Center → Mic Mode → Standard
- Use Chrome or Edge instead of Safari
- Safari is the most aggressive at unloading KonX video calls during interruptions.
- Chrome or Edge:
- Keep tabs alive longer
- Don’t reload as easily
- Work better with KonX
Screen Sharing on Mobile Devices
Screen sharing is not available on mobile devices (iPhone, iPad, and Android) when using KonX.
This is due to mobile operating system and browser limitations that prevent web-based applications from accessing full screen sharing features. These restrictions are enforced by mobile platforms for security and privacy reasons.
- Workarounds
- Use a desktop or laptop (Windows, macOS, or Chromebook) to access full screen sharing features.
- Share files instead by uploading documents or images to the session chat.
- Import images or documents into the whiteboard for live discussion.
- Send links (Google Drive, OneDrive, Dropbox, etc.) through the chat so participants can view the content on their devices.
For the best experience, screen sharing is recommended on a desktop or laptop browser.
Best Practices
- Mute yourself when not speaking.
- Use headphones for clearer sound.
- Position your camera at eye level.
- Ensure good lighting in front of you, not behind.
